The kinetic energy of a rotating object is one-half the moment of inertia (a.k.a. rotational inertia) of the object times the square of the angular velocity of the object.

Pronunciation: The symbol for angular velocity is the Greek letter "omega". Please don't call it "w".

Pitfall Avoidance Notes: Omega is how fast an object is spinning, not how fast it is going, not even how fast it is going around in a circle. As such, the units for omega are radians per second, not meters per second.
