The *kinetic energy* of a rotating object is one-half
the *moment of inertia* (a.k.a. *rotational
inertia*) of the object times the square of the *angular
velocity* of the object.

**Pronunciation:** The symbol for angular
velocity is the Greek letter* "*omega*". *Please
don't call it* "*w*"*.

**Pitfall Avoidance Notes:** Omega is how fast an object is spinning, not how
fast it is going, not even how fast it is going around in a
circle. As such, the units for omega are radians per second, **not**
meters per second.
